Herman Beavers

Herman Beavers is Associate Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches courses in 20th Century African American literature and creative writing.   He is currently completing scholarly two projects: The Geography of Risk: Representation, Jazz, and the Poetics of Conduct, 1947-2005 and another, Loud Canons: African American Literature and the Politics of Racial Uncertainty, which utilizes chaos and system theory to read canonical texts in African American literature.  And he is nearing completion of a new volume of poems entitled tundra of yes.  During the 2009-2010 academic year he served as a Visiting Fellow at Princeton’s Center for African American Studies and delivered one of the keynote addresses at the Symposium on African American Literature at China Central Normal University in Wuhan, China.
